Me and Andy James

A few weeks ago I, once again, paid a visit to the beautiful Toneworld in Manchester (Yes, its becoming quite the habit). They were hosting a free demonstration evening focussing on the DV Mark multiamp. The host for the evening was none other than UK shred master Andy James, of whom I am a pretty big fan.

Andy James is very much a metal kinda guy, something which I’m not usually too fond of these days. However, I really enjoy Andy’s music as all that shredding is generally nicely interspersed with very melodic and open sounding sections with soaring melodies and wide intervallic phrasing which I just love.

I have wanted to see Andy James playing close up for a long time and so it was absolutely fantastic to finally see him play with such precision in person.

Aside from the fact that many of us there were obviously Andy James fans, the main point of the evening was to demostrate the DV Mark multiamp. The DV Mark multiamp is a rack-mountable preamp/effects processor/power amp and is designed to be an all in one solution for todays guitarist.

I had seen the multiamp in action before so already knew what it could do. The thing sounds AMAZING and incrdibly amp like in its response. During the clinic the unit was being ran straight into a pair of 4×12 cabinets in stereo and it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to notice the lack of valves. It really does do an incredible job.

All in all the night was both very informative, and very funny. It was a very relaxed vibe all the way through and we got to hear some incredible guitar playing too.

As far as I am aware, it is Toneworld’s intention to host this sort of thing on a fairly regular basis so keep your ear to the ground or on their facebook, facebook.com/ToneWorld, for upcoming events as they are not to be missed.
